My partner and I moved to Berlin from the Canadian West Coast, to open our own craft beer bar here. He grew up in the industry (literally, his parents were already running two restaurants when he was born) and I worked in various hospitality roles from the age of 14. Our bar has 22 beers on tap, including two nitro taps, with a focus on showcasing a wide variety and balance of styles sourced from Europe, the US and Canada. We have done everything at the bar - laid the bricks, built the draft system, painted the furniture, sourced the beers, cleaned the bathrooms, bartended, etc. Now we have an excellent FOH team and need to spend less time actively bartending, so we're focusing more on sourcing and relationships.
