Onigiri Cooking Class
Amager
Onigiri is a traditional Japanese rice ball, often shaped into triangles or round balls and wrapped in seaweed (nori). It is filled with various ingredients such as salmon, pickled plum or tuna with mayonnaise. Onigiri is a popular and convenient snack or light meal in Japan, known for its simplicity, easy transport and delicious flavour.
We’ll show you how to cook rice both in a pot and in a rice cooker, and demonstrate some different techniques and fillings for onigiri – so you can see how simple and versatile it can be too.
For onigiri, we serve miso soup – a traditional Japanese soup made with miso, seaweed and tofu. It’s warm, rich and goes perfectly with rice. We also serve tsukemono, Japanese pickled vegetables, which provide a crisp, salty and slightly acidic contrast to the soft and mild rice. They are often eaten as a side dish or as a way to cleanse the taste buds.
Minor variations in the dishes and programme may occur due to availability of ingredients from our suppliers and to offer the best possible experience on the day.
